FENS Seminars – Onur Tarakçıoğlu

Onur Tarakçıoğlu (The Space Systems Department of Turkish Aerospace Industries) will be the next guest of the KHAS Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences seminar series with his speech “Engineering Challenges in New Space” on Friday, December 15 at 2 PM at B-409. The event is open to anyone interested.

Abstract: The realm of space exploration is witnessing a remarkable transformation with the advent of “New Space.” This exciting era is characterized by an influx of private sector innovation, international collaboration, and rapid technological advancements. As we venture further into the space, engineers are faced with a new set of challenges. This speech delves into the multifaceted engineering challenges in New Space, from designing reusable rockets to creating sustainable habitats on other planets. It explores the complexities of ensuring safety, minimizing environmental impact, and optimizing cost-efficiency in this bold new frontier. Join us as we journey through the fascinating world of New Space engineering, where innovation knows no bounds, and the sky is not the limit.

About the Speaker: Onur Tarakçıoğlu graduated from Sakarya University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department and began his professional career as a project engineer at Netaş Montaj AŞ in the same year. In 2005, he pursued his master’s degree in the field of artificial intelligence and control at Borlange University in Sweden. During the same period, until 2006, he worked on the Mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicle R&D Program at Global Teknik. In 2006, Tarakçıoğlu joined the Space Systems Department of Turkish Aerospace Industries as an avionics system design engineer. Here, after working as system engineer and designer in space projects, he took on roles as a Project Coordinator, Business Planning and Development Specialist, and General Coordinator. Tarakçıoğlu is currently engaged his doctoral studies in fault predictive maintenance in mega satellite constellations at Gazi University and is employed as the Program Manager for Electric Communication Satellites at Turkish Aerospace Industries.
