In partnership with the Municipality of Silivri, Kadir Has University has been working to establish the Silivri Technology Development Zone in the area where our Selimpaşa Campus has been located for about two years. An exemplary cooperation model has been developed with the Municipality of Silivri for this project and, a protocol was signed on December 27, 2021. The signature ceremony for the protocol was attended by Kadir Has University President Prof. Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz, Vice President and R&D Resources Director Prof. Dr. Hasan Dağ, Silivri Mayor Volkan Yılmaz, Deputy Mayor Emre Sarısaltıkoğlu and press members.

It is aimed to register the area of 100,179.12 square meters owned by the Municipality of Silivri and allocated to Kadir Has University for 49 years as a Technology Development Zone, and then establish a Technopark in this zone. Thanks to this Technopark project, it is intended to create different investment areas, offer new employment opportunities, and contribute to the regional economy and the country’s economy through R&D operations that are to be carried out in line with the “Municipality, University, and Industrial Enterprises.”

“WE WILL BUILD AN ECOSYSTEM, WHERE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES AND SERVICES ARE TO BE DEVELOPED”

“We are taking the first step together so that our Selimpaşa Campus could serve as a technopark for the region and our country,” said Prof. Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz, who continued at the signature ceremony as follows: “This Silivri Technology Development Zone that we are establishing will be different than other technoparks: First of all, we will create an ecosystem, where R&D based advanced technology products and services will be developed. In this ecosystem, we will act as a pioneer for and encourage, in particular, young academicians and university students to establish innovative companies based on their knowledge and skills. Besides, it will be one of our main goals to support gender equality and equal opportunities at this technopark.”

Underlining that another distinctive characteristic of this initiative is that the project is carried out in partnership with a local government that knows the region and the needs therein very well. Prof. Durukanoğlu highlighted that this would be an excellent example of cooperation between a university and a local municipality.

“THERE WILL BE GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO EXPORT”

Stating that the number of companies carrying out R&D operations in about 90 technology development companies across Turkey reached 6,800 and, the number of personnel employed by these companies exceeded 70 thousand, Prof. Dr. Hasan Dağ shared striking numbers during his speech: “According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the number of patents registered by companies operating in these zones is 1.332 and, the application process for 2,937 patents is in progress. 41,520 projects have been completed up until now in these technology development zones, and the number of projects studied exceeded 11 thousand 200. The export figures for the sales of prototypes and licenses only exceeded the amount of USD 6.2 billion.”

Stating that the Technology Development Zone, which will be established in partnership with the Municipality of Silivri, is intended to contribute to the efforts of our country to expand the range of products and services with high added value and increase the number of qualified entrepreneurs and personnel, Prof. Dağ highlighted that the domestic production and development would speed up and, entrepreneurs in the district and its surrounding areas, in particular, female entrepreneurs, would be encouraged and supported.

“WE ARE TAKING AN IMPORTANT STEP FOR SİLİVRİ AND OUR COUNTRY’S ECONOMY”

“With this Technopark, we aim to create new investment and employment areas in our region and, thus, contribute to the country’s economy. Another important thing that I care about in this project is that an agricultural technopark will be established here, a first for Turkey. That will make it possible for us to improve the agricultural industry, produce new strategies and, support farmers and animal breeders in various subjects. I would also underline that we will attach importance, in particular, to female farmers and young farmers thanks to this agricultural technopark” said Silivri Mayor Volkan Yılmaz, who continued as follows:

We will also construct a public facility in the portion of 25,000 square meters of the land of 100,000 square meters owned by Kadir Has University, for which a project is prepared by the Municipality of Silivri, where those living in Silivri will be free to enjoy social, cultural and sport events and activities. It will be an invaluable and very prestigious technopark!”
